PANCREAS (Partner Care for Diabetes) is a project held by SCOPH CIMSA UI to commemorate World Diabetes Day on the 14th of November 2020. PANCREAS aim is to raise public awareness toward diabetes and to educate people about healthy lifestyles to prevent or to take care of diabetes. Our project had three events, air campaigns, discussion forums, and the main event. We have made three infographics titled “Diabetes 101”, “Diabetic Foot”, and “Diabetes in The Era of Pandemic”. At the end of the campaigns we created a true or false challenge to see how well the public knows about diabetes.
The discussion forum is a forum that was made by creating a social media group in a mobile application called WhatsApp which gave opportunities for people to ask anything regarding diabetes to be answered by doctors that are capable in that field. We opened three forums which were held on Sundays and invited three doctors, they were dr. Rahayu, Sp. PD who is the head of Persadia branch in Jakarta Timur, and dr. F. C. Puspita Hapsari and dr. Atikah Isna Fatya, alumni of CIMSA UI.
Then, for the main event, we held a Zoom online event with activities consisting of aerobic dance, webinar, and talk show. The aerobic dance was led by an instructor from Puskesmas Kabupaten Pasirnangka named Putri. We also had notable speakers from our external partnership with Departemen Ilmu Penyakit Dalam FKUI-RSCM: dr. Muhammad Firhat Idris, Sp. PD for our webinar titled “Komplikasi dan Perawatan Diabetes” and dr. Kaka Renaldi, Sp.PD, KGEH for our talk show which discussed myths and facts about diabetes. In the post events, we shared an E-booklet containing the summary of diabetes that people needed to know through social media. Our events were participated by numerous people, approximately 161 in the main event, 49 in discussion forums, and 31 people also participated in our air campaign challenge. There had been a rise in the average score for the pretest and posttest from 63,97% to 84.97%. We hope that this event will truly make an impact on people in maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent and take care of diabetes.
