Background

HEART (HIV/AIDS and Other Sexually Transmitted Diseases Education and Prevention) is an event held by SCORA CIMSA UI 2020 to commemorate World Aids Day which falls on December 1st each year. According to our assessment on 119 random people, their average score for knowledge about HIV/AIDS is 68.4% (with a gap of 99.5%). On the other hand, there is a tendency of stigmatization for people living with HIV (PLHIV), such as 93.3% of our respondents believe that PLHIV are involved in promiscuity. Furthermore, our respondents mostly agree (with average score 89%) that there should be a discussion for this issue. Therefore, all of those reasons increase the urgency of conducting HEART. 

Objectives

The main objective of this event is to improve knowledge and awareness of 100 people about HIV/AIDS (general information, transmission, prevention) and people living with HIV (including decreasing the stigma and discrimination), also other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) by conducting webinar, HIV/AIDS-related myth or fact clarification, and HIV/AIDS-related quizzes on instagram to 50 individuals, also content creative competition to 20 participants around November 23rd – December 5th 2020. The improvement of people’s knowledge and awareness are measured by pre-test and post-test questionnaires on the main event with a minimal score of 70%. 

Description

HEART is divided into pre-event including online campaign, open donation, creative content competition (November 23rd—December 3rd, 2020) and main event including webinar and talk show with PLHIV (December 5th, 2020). Our online campaign consists of myth/fact about HIV/AIDS, World AIDS Day Quiz, and the clarification of the previous myth/fact. In collaboration with CIMSA Indonesia, our donation that was collected through Kitabisa platform will be given to NGO that actively help PLHIV in Indonesia. The theme of this year’s creative content competition is about “Zero HIV Stigma and Discrimination” and “Education and Prevention of HIV/AIDS”, in order to increase awareness and knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS and other STDs, in which they can make any form of creative content, either posters, infographics, educational videos, or podcasts that was published through their Instagram feeds.

Impact

According to our initial target, we have succeeded to reach an average score of 70% for both pre-test & post-test questionnaire on more than 300 participants, which indicates a positive impact of this event on providing a better understanding in HIV/AIDS and STDs topic. We also managed to reach an average of 100 people in World AIDS Day Quiz through @cimsaui Instagram account and 28 participants on Creative Content Competition that was held in collaboration with UNAIDS Indonesia. Through our main event, online campaign, and creative content competition, we hope we can spread positive impact on providing a better understanding of HIV/AIDS from verified sources, as well as to help eradicate stigmas and discriminations toward PLHIV.

Closing

Last but not least, SCORA CIMSA UI 2020 hopes HEART will initiate other similar events in order to improve people’s knowledge and awareness about HIV/AIDS, also decreasing the stigmatization of people to PLHIV in Indonesia. We hope our event’s tagline would come true: End the dread, stop the spread!
